Natalie Portman's Dad Shopping Around His Novel
Seth Abramovitch · 04/06/11 03:26AM
Have you read Misconception, a page-turner of a "reproductive thriller," self-published by fertility specialist Dr. Avner Hershlag? Well, you might want to jump on that baby now, before a major publisher buys it and hikes up the price considerably. That's because Hershlag — who happens to be the dad of Natalie Portman — has been shopping the book around.

Last week, the owner of the fiery death trap Deepwater Horizon oil rig, Transocean Ltd., announced in a SEC filing that it was handing out huge bonuses to its top executives for the "best year in safety performance in our company's history." Transocean CEO and big bonus recipient Steve Newman also made a point that of the 11 crew members who died on the oil rig last year, 9 of them were Transocean employees. Who cares about those other guys, right? Unsurprisingly, that filing pissed off a lot of people. So now they're really sorry for saying that... really!

Jeff Neumann · 04/04/11 04:31AM
It's tempting to fly Southwest Airlines these days to avoid being totally extorted by the bigger carriers, even if you have to endure seven layovers between New York and Chicago. But by now you've probably heard about the Southwest flight that had to make an emergency landing after the roof literally tore open last week. Scary, sure. But that's not necessarily cause to avoid flying Southwest altogether, right? Well, yesterday three more Southwest planes were found to have cracks similar to the five-footer from last week.
A New Madonna Charity Scandal

Madonna's private school for girls in Malawi has collapsed amid scandal. Now it looks like another one of her charities is up to something weird. Her international educational charity Success for Kids is being looked into by the FBI, according to The Daily. It is unclear for what, exactly, but it's not for being too fabulous. Something about "several irregularities and suspicious activity?"

Jeff Neumann · 04/03/11 11:12AM
While Libyan rebels can't seem to hold any ground in a protracted fight with forces loyal to Muammar Qaddafi, the Brother Leader's slimy son Seif al-Islam has come up with an ingenious proposal: to put himself in charge of a "transition to constitutional democracy," according to the Times, speaking with diplomats in the know. That's pretty rich coming from a guy who last month said of the rebellion, "We will not be tolerant. We will fight to the end," and blamed terrorists for the unrest as opposed to his family's four decades of repression. But hey, he's gotta try something, right? And we're sure he'd be willing to relinquish whatever power he gives himself once that "transition" happens, too.
Transocean Gives Bonuses for 'Safety Performance'
Jeff Neumann · 04/03/11 08:02AM
Remember Transocean Ltd., the company that owned the BP-operated Deepwater Horizon oil rig that exploded in a hellish ball of fire, killing 11 workers and setting off the massive Gulf oil spill last year? In documents filed with the SEC on Friday, the company announced it was handing out bonuses to senior executives for overseeing the "best year in safety performance in our company's history." Perhaps that's because, as Transocean CEO Steve Newman wrote in a statement, "Of the 126-member crew [on the Deepwater Horizon], 115 were safely evacuated." He also points out that only 9 of the 11 dead were Transocean employees.
