No one knows why but when the Obama's asked to stay in Blair House during the transition so that they could get their kids enrolled in school, as is traditional of most incoming presidents, the current White House said "no." Wtf? Is it Laura's drug den or something? Are they afraid he'll mess the place up? [NYT]

Vanity Fair has rounded up a few suggestions on how Barack Obama could spruce up the painfully dated Oval Office when he settles in the White House next month. One piece of advice from interior designer (and Oprah fave) Nate Berkus: "Can we all agree that the president shouldn't have 15 advisers all crowded onto two yellow sofas? Let's bring in some natural linens and more handsome colors, such as beige, army green, and brown." More here. [VF]

Pareene · 12/10/08 04:45PM
Do you have a question for Barack Obama? Sure you do! Barack Obama has a thing on his website where you can ask questions of him and the transition and, eventually, his administration. Of course, many politicians have these easily ignored comments sections for questions, on their sites, but this one is different: it's got Digg-style voting! So far there are 78,934 votes on 1,192 questions, and the winner is a lame softball along the lines of "what will you do to establish transparency and eliminate waste and how warm and nice, exactly, will the hug you give all of America be, once you're in office?" Surely the internet can "crowdsource" some better questions than that.
Jesse Jackson, Jr. Is Senate Candidate 5
Pareene · 12/10/08 11:52AM
Senate Candidate 5? It's Jesse Jackson, Jr.! Someone connected to the congressman apparently had ROD BLAGOJEVICH convinced that ROD BLAGOJEVICH would make a cool million dollars by appointing Jackson to Barack Obama's Senate seat, against the president-elect's wishes. Jackson says he was told he's "not a target of this investigation," and says he'll cooperate with the investigation. This makes two Obama allies caught seeming a bit corrupt in the Blagojevich filing!
