Yvette Clarke

Congresswoman Clarke represents New York's eleventh district, which includes Brooklyn neighborhoods like Brownsville, Crown Heights, Flatbush, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, and Kensington.
A Brooklyn native, Clarke attended Oberlin College and Medgar Evers College and received the "APPAH/Sloan Fellowship in Public Policy and Policy Analysis." She began her career as the director of the Business Development for the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation and director of New York Empowerment Zone but began her career in New York politics on the City Council in 2001, where she succeeded her mother, Una Clarke. Although she ran unsuccessfully twice in 2000 and 2004, she was elected to Congress in 2006. Having spent time on the Homeland Security and Small Business committees, Clarke is known for her Brooklyn pride, supporting non-profits and community organizations that increasingly bolster her district.
