He's the filmmaker responsible for Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic (along with Noah Baumbach). Writer/director Anderson's twee films are catnip for hipsters, and headache-inducing for anyone over the age of 40.

Born with the romance-novel inducing name Wesley Wales, Anderson was born in 1969 in Houston, TX to an archeologist mother. He graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy from UT-Austin, around the time Owen Wilson graduated from the same school. And yes, the two were reportedly buds who shared the same passion for quirky 70's movies. After graduation, Anderson took a job at a local TV station while he and Wilson wrote and shot his first film, Bottle Rocket. The 13-minute short was picked up at Sundance, and the rest, as they say, is quirky 70's-homage indie flick history.

Other notable Anderson films include The Darjeeling Limited (2007), Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009), and the upcoming Moonrise Kingdom (2012).
