Stephen Knoll

A coiffeur to celebs and socialites, Knoll runs the Upper East Side salon that bears his name.
Born and raised in Wisconsin, Knoll started styling his mom's hair as a six-year-old; by junior high, he'd moved on to coloring and cutting. After graduating from high school, he moved to New York, where he worked as a freelance stylist on commercials and photo shoots for magazines like Vogue, InStyle, and Cosmopolitan. His assignments brought him into contact with top models including Cindy Crawford and Brooke Shields, and when he opened his namesake salon in 1991, a number of them followed along as clients.
Knoll's not shy about his celebrity client list; he posts it on his website. He's apparently tended to the locks of Drew Barrymore, Christie Brinkley, Bette Midler, Kristin Davis, Debra Messing, David Bowie, Iman, and Anne Hathaway, to name just a few. And like any big name coiffeur, he also has a line of products, including shampoos, conditioners and styling waxes and gels. [Image via Getty, with Patrick McDonald]
