New York's self-proclaimed "King of Color," Licari runs salons on both coasts, and like every other hair superstar, has a line of products, too.

Licari began his career in the beauty world at an unlikely place: Syracuse University, where he studied painting. Post-grad, however, he started just like everyone else, as a shampooer, and he eventually chipped his way up the salon totem pole until 1987, when he opened his eponymous salon, where he continues to act as owner and executive director. Licari has made his mark in the beauty world by straying from trends—no ombre or electric blue hair from him—and focusing on what hair color is right for each person. Because of his approach, Licari's most trusted clients are non-rabble rousing celebs like Sofia Coppola, Lydia Hearst, Minnie Driver, Susan Sarandon, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Like every "famous" stylist, he's churned out a line of "Ionic" products, and he's increased his visibility with his habitual appearances on the Today show, where he has been a long standing "contributing editor" for their makeover segments.
