Burress joined the Giants in 2005 and his impressive performance during the 2007-8 season helped the team win Super Bowl XLII. His career was thrown into doubt in November 2008 when he accidentally shot himself in the leg at a New York club.

Burress made a splash during his college years at Michigan State by setting a Big Ten Conference single-season record for catching 65 passes. He was the eighth overall pick in the 2000 draft and played with the Pittsburgh Steelers for four years. He played solidly with the Steelers, but after losing in the playoffs in 2004, Burress announced that he was going to make the move to New York. His early years with the New York Giants were disappointing, but he became a Super Bowl legend for the 2007 season after he not only predicted that the Giants would beat the Patriots 23-17 but caught the winning catch that led them to victory. However, he caused a stir and was suspended for the beginning of the 2008 season for failing to appear at the Giants' mandatory pre-season camp. But this trouble paled in comparison to November 2008, when he accidentally shot himself in the leg with the Glock pistol tucked into his sweat pants. Although the wound wasn't serious, he was charged for illegal possession of a concealed weapon and was suspended for the rest of the season. Burress struck a plea bargain in 2009 that gave him two years in prison and two years of supervised release. He was released from prison in 2011 and went on to play for a season with the New York Jets. [Image via Getty]
