Yoko Ono

The widow of John Lennon, Ono was the most-loathed Beatle bride—until Heather Mills came along. Her son is Sean Lennon.
Born in Tokyo, Ono briefly moved to New York City when she was a child but moved back to Hanoi and attended the elite Gakushuin school. After the war, she and her family moved back to New York and Ono attended Sarah Lawrence, which piqued her interest in the avant garde. After two quickie marriages to artist/musicians Toshi Ichiyanagi and Anthony Cox, she met John Lennon, and the pair was married in 1969. The two had a passion for activism, attending public protests against the Vietnam War, music, and performance art, which often overlapped, such as their "Bagism" campaign. Of course, this was the era when The Beatles decided to call it quits, and Yoko became the (unwarranted?) target of blame by both the media and the public. Although their relationship saw strain in the mid ‘70s, the pair reunited and had their son Sean in 1975, five years before John was murdered. Since Lennon's tragic death, Ono has continued creating her own unique brand of conceptual albums and multimedia art installations, and she has relentlessly used her star power for philanthropy from AIDS research to her own peace award.
