Are talk shows the new single-location reality show? With NBC spinning Leno in primetime as a low-cost alternative to shows involving bionic women, Tavis Smiley should soon get that bump to a real network.

When you consider that Elvis Costello, William Shatner and Bonnie Hunt now have chat shows, the possibilities are limitless for networks who only have the money for a small set, a couple talent bookers and some sort of celebrity with nothing to do for a couple of hours a day. Keep your phone line open, Dick Cavett.

WATCH

Pushing Daisies [8 PM, ABC] - We're huge Mary Kay Place fans (though not as huge/organized as this old school fan website), wo we're jazzed to see her guest-starring tonight as a murdered lighthouse keeper. For those of you new to the character work of MKP, check out Being John Malkovich (Floris, a secretary with a hearing impediment) and the Steve Buscemi-directed Lonesome Jim (the perfect cheerful Midwest mother).

Dear Food Network [9 PM, Food Network] - As much as we hate the Food Network's resident douchey frat boy Guy Fieri (he wears sunglasses on the back of his head), we seem to watch every show he appears on. Tonight, Guy and his frat brothers Cooter, Stubs and Doo-Dog present their recipes for different cuts of holiday meat.

TiVo

Lockdown [9 PM, National Geographic] - This program profiles Youthful Offender System inmates - violent juvenile felons - starting at their arrival at the correctional facility through a rigorous month-long boot camp, where supervisors attempt to break them down, followed by a two-to-six year sentence. Then they have to work their way up from the mailroom to hopefully get on a prominent agent's desk. Justice is harsh.

Whitney: From the Hills to the City [10 PM, MTV] - In this 90-minute special, Whitney reminisces about her time on The Hills, her Teen Vogue internship, her fake job, and her new series. Prediction: In the future, when our attention spans are exponentially shorter, MTV will still be doing 90 minute puff pieces. They're just too good at it. Also, by the law of celebrity averages, shouldn't one of these girls have been to rehab by now? We all remember when JWahl had to hit up Chapman House, but we're hoping Lo beats down a flight attendant and has to attend anger management. Make this happen, Viacom.

KILL

Catch and Release [8 PM, Encore] - Jennifer Garner stars as a young woman who falls in love with one of her fiance's friends (Timothy Olyphant) after her fiance dies unexpectedly. We like Olyphant in Go, The Girl Next Door and Deadwood, but his brooding style was the wrong fit for this film. Jennifer Garner's weepy almost-widow has more chemistry with Kevin Smith's supportive friend character. That's not all that surprising, considering Kevin Smith can have chemistry with inanimate objects.
