Choosing our list of what to watch was difficult today, and the fact that Sara Rue on The Big Bang Theory (part of a multi-episode arc) and James Van Der Beek as a film director on One Tree Hill did not make the grade, shows how fertile the Monday TV landscape is for beloved TV actors. WATCH The Tonight Show with Jay Leno [11:35 PM, NBC] - Ron Howard, Jonas Brothers - Former and current teen idols unite in Burbank. Ron Howard promotes Frost/Nixon and will hopefully address the white hot rumors about the Arrested Development movie.Valkyrie: The Plot to Kill Hitler [10 PM, History] - This documentary covers the failed attempt to assassinate Hitler and take control of the German government through re-enactments, newsreel footage and interviews with historians, survivors and witnesses. Times are tight, so catch the raw history on basic cable and hold out for Valkyrie to come to a sketchy second-run multiplex. TiVo

How I Met Your Mother [8:30 PM, CBS] - After Ted (Josh Radnor) walks in on Robin's (Cobie Smulders) date sitting naked on the couch, the group tries a new tactic for bedding their dates. This show isn't as strong at The Big Bang Theory, but the character of Ted is starting to grow on us. We don't really care about his long-term arc, but we want him to get laid. The Soup Presents: Cold Turkey - Shows We Can't Quit [10 PM, E!] - After the loveliness that was A Colbert Christmas, every other holiday special will likely be a step down. The Soup's version of a holiday special finds Joel McHale running through a list of stars and addictive TV shows they are thankful for this holiday season. KILL

It's Me or the Dog [9 PM, Animal Planet] - In this mas lame version of NatGeo's Dog Whisperer, trainer/host Victoria Stilwell plays the Cesar Millan role with a British accent, a hot body (for Animal Planet, anyway) and uses positive reinforcement to train dogs. In this episode, Victoria helps a single mother with Crohn's disease deal with three difficult dogs. When we saw this listing, we hoped it was some sort of dog-focused reality dating show, but we were very disappointed. Mystery Diagnosis [10 PM, Discovery Health] - This show promises to take its viewers on a "medical odyssey" by profiling medical problems that have gone undiagnosed for years with interviews, home videos, personal photos and recreations. In this week's episode, a patient suffers from gastrointestinal issues after solid food is introduced into his diet. The big reveal at the end is the actual affliction the patient is suffering. Move! That! Curtain! So we can see the chart and X-rays!
