Rudy Forced to Decide Between Greed and Ego

Is Rudy Giuliani planning to run for governor? He still hasn't announced his candidacy officially, but it's looking more and more like he's a contender. Last week, he "encouraged" the chairman of the New York State Republican Committee, Joseph Mondello, to step down from his post, and Mondello dutifully did what he was told yesterday, resigning from the job to allow the former mayor to push for a more Rudy-friendly replacement. He's been crisscrossing the state over the last few weeks to drum up support with state Republicans. And he met with Mayor Bloomberg recently to discuss his chances.
But he still hasn't made a final decision, partly because Giuliani is still weighing "what impact another campaign would have on his business interests," including the law firm he's affiliated with, Bracewell & Giuliani, his Giuliani Partners consulting firm, and the millions more he collects from speaking engagements every year.
It's a tough decision, clearly. Does he take a gamble, throw his hat into the ring, and hope voters take a chance on him because they're fed up with all the dysfunction in Albany? Or does he continue to play golf three times a week and make speeches to distinguished groups like the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Help-U-Sell Real Estate? (See below.) Guess we'll find out in the "next 30 to 60 days"!
