The Seattle Times editor who objected to the very few members of his newsroom who cheered the resignation of Karl Rove has clarified his thoughts in an email to the staff. "A good newsroom is a sacred and magical place," he told the staff. Also, he wrote in the memo, "Please, please get your robe sizes in to wardrobe by the next dark moon for the autumn equinox celebration. If you don't have your new robe, we won't let you into the star circle when we butcher the goats, and Gaia will be angry!"

Okay, now let me get the rules of modern print journalism straight, because it's been a while since I walked out of j-school and into the English department muttering something about "self-justifying navel gazers.

Cheering for the "shock and totally fucking awesome" murder of thousands of innocent Iraqis in an orgy of self-congratulatory media fellatio of an administration that treats the entire media with the utmost contempt, well, that's a-okay. And in print, too. Yippee for dead civilians and our awesome awesome bomb makers. Fucking ragheads had it coming.

On the other hand, cheering the long long long overdue resignation of the asshole who made the technique of repeatedly lying to the media until the media was forced (by what, no one knows) to repeat those lies (Saddam did 9/11....suckers!), that's not cool. Did it ever occur to this "executive editor" (um, does that mean, "too incompetent to be a real editor by any any chance?) that his staffers weren't cheering for a political cause as much as they were cheering for more truth and less fucking scumbag lying?

Karl Rove is an evil dirtbag and if he came down with cancer of the throat from all the lies he's allowed through it, I'd get up and dance my fucking ass off.

@redmanlaw: Karl Rove leaving doesn't change the war on the ground at all. It just means that Bush will most definitely be gone come 2009, but it doesn't mean that U.S. troops will not still be dying.

I'll cheer the second the troops are sent back home and allowed to recover from the insane hell-on-earth they've been placed in.
