This is completely unconfirmed, but we're hearing that a "white substance" has been found on the 8th floor of the Times building and that everyone has been evacuated. We'll refrain from making the obvious cocaine joke until we know what exactly is going on (if anything).

Anyone know more? Do tell.

UPDATE: There's definitely a problem in the 8th floor mailroom. A white substance has been found and the entire floor — which houses the part of the Styles section and Travel — has been evacuated. The rest of the building is fine and at work, but the hazmat white bunny suits are making the rounds and employees have been instructed to steer clear of the 8th floor.

God, please don't let this have anything to do with Alex Kuczynski.

UPDATE UPDATE: Sent to staff by NYT president Scott Heekin-Canedy:

Folks,

At about 12:30 p.m. today an employee in Postal Services Department at our headquarters building in New York opened a business envelope addressed to The New York Times. A white powdery substance came out of the envelope. The person who opened the envelope followed our procedures. He put the envelope in a plastic bag and called the New York City police. They are now on site investigating. We will keep you updated on developments.

UPDATEx3: Tipster says, "Reliable source says the NYPD has concluded its testing of the white substance and it is 'non-threatening'... employees are returning to the 8th floor." Unconfirmed.
