Hollywood PrivacyWatch celebrity sightings are submitted by our readers. Send yours to tips[AT]defamer.com (please put sighting or PrivacyWatch in the subject line) and let everyone know that Jake Gyllenhaal's feeble attempts to obscure his identity while in public will inevitably fail.

In today's decidedly two-dimensional, post-Oscars episode: Brad Renfro; Steven Spielberg, Les Moonves, Jon Turtletaub, and Bill Pullman; George Lucas; Heath Ledger; Keira Knightley and Claire Forlani x2; JJ Abrams; Laurence Fishburne and Jake Gyllenhaal; Elisabeth Shue and Paul Haggis (!); Robert Downey, Jr.; Annette Bening; John C. Reilly; Amy Adams; Dennis Hopper, Elvis Costello, Michelle Rodriguez, Paris Hilton, and Tara Reid; Prince and John Williams; Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher; BJ Novak; Angela Kinsey; Adrian Grenier; Andy Richter; David Spade; Jeremy Piven and Kristin Chenowith; Ellen Pompeo; Maria Bello, Andy Dick, and Kevin Dillon; Andy Dick; Marcia Cross; Carlos Bernard; Kevin Smith; Christopher Lloyd, Janel Moloney, Danny Masterson, and Jonathan Ahdout; Tim Allen; Eric Idle; Iam Somerhalder; Adrienne Barbeau; Tobin Bell and Clay Aiken; Jonathin Antin; Dave Mustaine.

· Saw Brad Renfro walking by The Griddle on Thursday morning. He looked healthy, like the son of the guy we saw getting arrested a few months back.

The Saturday night before the Oscars I went to a charity event with teenage rock bands at the Knitting Factory. Despite street closures and parking hassles I made it inside to see some (actuall quite good) rocking from local high school kids to benefit namecampaign.org and raise awareness of the terrible child soldier situation in northern Uganda. [Ed.note—Plug for a good cause, we'll allow it.] As I made my way into the dark club I practically ran into the power trifecta of actor Bill Pullman, director Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure) and, Defamer favorite, Les Moonves chatting it up between bands. The next band started and I saw one dad videotaping the performance. After a double-take I realized it was Steven Spielberg and the drummer (I think) was one of his children. Quite a charming show of fatherly devotion, to face the Hollywood Bld. lockdown just one right before he has to do it again for the Oscars. Spielberg was the ultimate proud Dad (who by the way has several adopted kids from disadvantaged situations that he does not wave around like otheramous-types).

Proves showing up at any Westside hotel that's on Travel + Leisure's top 500 list during Oscar weekend guarantees a sighting. I was having dainty afternoon tea at the Hotel Bel-Air with a couple of girlfriends, and we spotted George Lucas en route to his room. (My husband also saw him this week at one of the Universal commissaries, which I don't count b/c it was on a studio lot. No fair. There are rules, dammit.) We wound up at the valet at the same time, and George and his two awkward kids (daughter sorta heavy set, son lanky and taller than dad) got into a limo for pre-Oscar night festivities.

3/5: I was at brow guru Anastasia's home in Beverly Hills for the Jaguar Getaway suite. As I was leaving I saw Heath Ledger. He had a full beard and was quite striking in person. He was rather tall too. I wished him luck and took off.

· 3/4: Decided to stalk celebs while my sister was visiting from Pittsburgh. Keira Knightley was lunching at the Ivy, she snuck out the back to a waiting Hummer to avoid the crowd of photogs/tourists waiting. In the meantime, Claire Forlani exited the restaurant, flash bulbs popping, and bumped into me while I was looking around for a better place to spot her. She said politely "Excuse me", and then bumped into my sister, who was also looking for a better vantage point. She excused herself again, then looked for her car (which wasn't there) and quickly retreated to pout just inside the restaurant while she waited. Not sure why she was acting so miffed- what did she expect at the Ivy?? Sitting in the corner was Lizzie Grubman, and absolutely no one cared about her. I didn't see one picture taken of her while she ate and then waited for her car. So sad!

On the Saturday before the Oscars, I was walking past the Ivy when I saw a gigantic throng of paparazzi—half in front, half across Robertson. After learning that KEIRA KNIGHTLEY was inside eating with her parents, I decided to hang around. A while later, LIZZIE GRUBMAN and party were seated on the patio by the picket fence. Lizzie immediately ordered a sweet, star-struck Keira fan to step back from the fence. After more waiting, CLAIRE FORLANI walked in with an actor (I think DOUGRAY SCOTT) and was pounced on by the frustrated photogs, who took more pictures of her in one minute than they have in all the years since "Met Joe Black" combined. After more waiting, the paparazzi started sprinting to the alley behind the restaurant and I tagged along. It was an absolute madhouse as Keira walked a few feet to a waiting Hummer while paparazzi elbowed each other for position. One beefy guy knocked a female photog to the ground right in front of me. It was a lot of effort f or a one-second sighting, but after 30 years of living in L.A. I learned that the Ivy has a rear exit. Seems kind of odd when the only reason stars go there is to be seen.

· I had a sighting today at the Toluca Lake Starbucks — none other than the diminutive but powerful presence of JJ Abrams. He was walking and talking on his cell phone, I think holding a coffee, wearing jeans and two t-shirts (or a sweatshirt). Kinda hott. He's definitely got an energy about him — I sensed that I should be looking in his direction before he actually materialized there. Weird! I even had to turn around to make sure it was him, but he was moving fast and had almost crossed the street by then.

· 3-7: Two good ones today in Beverly Hills. First, while I was grabbing a late lunch at Nosh, Laurence Fishburne came in and placed a to-go order. The few people in the joint seemed to notice him, but no one said or did anything. Second, while driving home on little Santa Monica, I passed Mr. Brokeback himself, Jake Gyllenhaal. He was walking down the street and I caught him in the middle of putting on a grey hoodie and sunglasses—presumably so he wouldn't get recognized. Better luck next time, Jack Twist.

· I was at Coral Tree Cafe in Brentwood last Thursday (3/9) for lunch, when I saw Elizabeth Shue there with some agenty looking young fella. They were boring so there's nothing to report on that. However, I leave and walk past the valet and I see the King of Hollywood, the most insightful writer/director ever, the former staff writer on FACTS OF LIFE, Paul Haggis. Woo fuckin' hoo! I wanted to give him a wink, pat him on the arm and say.."stole one from the Academy huh?" but I thought he might sic his CRASH cast on me. Fuck him, that movie blows.

· So I m at the swanky Peninsula Hotel yesterday with my girlfriend, sitting in the bar area, when in strolls in Robert Downey, Jr. with a backpack slung over his shoulder. The girlfriend and I got a laugh as we imagined what a pharmacy that backpack must have held. Other than the fashion faux-paux, he looked like he was in good health (for a change).

· 3/10: ... and i don't have a lot to offer, but i DID see annette bening walking ALL ALONE this morning on the path (in the rain!) in fryman canyon (surprised that hollywood royalty would be completely sans
bodyguard/dog/friend, but it was DEFINITELY her), and DAMN is she SMALL ...

· At Highland Grounds today and sitting alone in the corner when we arrived is some dude who was still by himself as we got up to leave. Just then, his lunch companion arrived—a very tall, apparently very late, John C. Reilly. After greeting someone who yelled out "Hey, J.C.!", Reilly sat down with his guest and proceeded to speak in a very loud stage actor's voice with massive projection.

Went to Kings Road Cafe this morning and saw Amy Adams with boyfriend and weiner dog in tow eating breakfast. At first, I didn't think it was her because what would an Oscar nominee be doing eating on the big day? But then as a guy at another table started talking with her, they shook hands and she introduced herself as "Amy Adams". And she wasn't put off talking to her fan, but then again, she hasn't been recognizable that long. As she left, I overheard our server say, "Amy isn't nervous at all. Can you believe that?" I feel like I just saw Queen Elizabeth on coronation day.

Soho House Roundup Sat. Night 3/4: Best one was Michelle Rodriguez fucked up and eating shit outside at the tent. Paris and Stavros looking quite cuddly. Tara Reid on her best behavior not moving from her seat in the pit for about 5 hours. Dennis Hopper and Elvis Costello having a rousing dinner at their private table

· Prince was seated in the first class section of my Philadephia to LA flight on Thursday, March 2. He was the last person to board the plane and the first to get off once we landed. He was tiny and perfect. On Saturday night, I saw 2006 double Oscar nominee John Williams dining with a male companion at Gulfstream at the Westfield Century City Mall (which seems to be the restaurant of choice of LA types of a certain age—my mother and I were among the few diners there not drawing Social Security). Williams always looks fat and doddering on TV, but he was slimmer and taller than I expected.

· A low-key, very tall SACHA BARON COHEN and his miniscule but irresistibly cute girlfriend ISLA FISHER buying a coffee table at Denmark 50 on Melrose. Alas, no Borat or Ali G in sight.

· I was at the grove yesterday (the 12th) and saw BJ Novak from the office-plays ryan the temp-at Barnes and Nobles (always celebrity filled) the grove. he was with two very pretty girls. They were all laughing about something and were all dressed very hip yet relaxed. Hes taller than I thought.

· Angela from NBC's "The Office"!!! My heart just skipped a beat typing that. I wanted to run over and kiss her, but restrained myself, instead gifting her with the only socially acceptable L.A. celebrity acknowledgement, the half-smirk-with-slight-nod. Played by Angela Kinsey (I had to IMBD that - sorry Angela). At the Sidewalk Cafe' on the Venice Boardwalk, on Sunday afternoon, March 12, walking out of the restroom as we were sitting at the bar getting drunk and high-fiving the USA's baseball victory over Japan. We were there for cheap beer and TV. But don't ask us what she was doing in the back of that loveable dump — probably just borrowing the John. Looks exactly the same as on T.V. Best star-sighting in forever.

· Saw the strangely simian-like Adrian Grenier at the very non-descript Bread and Porridge on Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica on Wednesday, March 8 around 12:45pm. Came in with some blonde chick who thought that every last thing the dude did was utterly fascinating and totally hilarious. Either he or she brought their own liter of Arrowhead classy. I think he s pretty strangelooking not cute and really does look like a monkey!

· Andy Richter sitting alone at the bar at Ammo, 3/15, around 8pm. Snappily dressed, seemed to know the bartender. Wanted to tell him how much I loved his work in New York Minute but didn't want to ruin his evening. Perhaps his salary from that gig defrayed the cost of his expensive suit?

· Saw David Spade today outside Cat N' the Fiddle while having lunch with his very blonde coifed hairdo. He was talking to a malnourished model of course. Seeing his petite frame and fabulous hair made me question — is his penchant for dating models really retribution for being a dork in high school or is it that they use the same amount of hair products?

· The Pivert (Jeremy Piven) and West Wing's Kristin Chenowith having lunch at The Bowery on Sunset near Vine. 1p Weds. They sat in the back of this tiny bar/bistro facing out. Both seemed relaxed and happy.

· ok i'm a new yorker that happens to be in LA visiting for a few weeks. i was in the whole foods on fairfax in west hollywood (the equivalent to chelsea/west village) and i saw Ellen Pompeo from Grey's anatomy. She was about i'd say 5'5" taller than i'd expect but i mean 92 pounds. so skinny. she was wearing a white north face puffy jacket and looked like she rolled outta bed. she was with her tall black much older boyfriend...just thought i'd share.

· Sunday (3/5) at the Hollywood Market: Saw Maria Bello, who is SUPER tiny and has...(ulp) really bad skin, but not in a Pro-activ way, but in a "STAY OUT OF THE TANNING BED" way. Andy Dick carrying trays of food at the Market. Nothing exciting OR dramatic about him, for a change.
Whole Foods - 3rd and Fairfax Cheese Section (no pun intended) - a slightly crabby Kevin Dillon whose voice is SO smooth and inviting but in a "don't eff with me" way.

· 3-7: Saw Andy Dick at Real Food Daily today on La Cienega. He had a 1/2 glass of wine and then ordered a more full glass before his lunch companion got there. He looked relaxed and was well dressed/coifed.

· marcia cross sighting: basic bites, beverly hills: monday 3/6 during a crowded lunch rush, i was waiting in line to order carry out when one of the guys behind the counter called out, "marcia?" i wouldn't ordinarily have batted an eye but for the sight of one of america's favorite desparate housewives rising from her seat (wisely facing a far wall) and turning around to get her food. for those wondering, yes: her hair, skin, and eyes are as striking in person as they are on the show. she wore a sweater, jeans, and (inexplicably) ugg boots that matched the sweater. she spent the rest of the time i was there eating and talking quietly with a dark haired female friend, and due to where she
was seated seemingly went unnoticed by the most of the other patrons.

· 3/6 - Saw Carlos Bernardof "24" fame this afternoon at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at Ventura Blvd and Whitsett. I've also seen him at The Bean at Sunset Blvd and Fairfax — the guy likes his Coffee Bean. He also looks pretty good, you know, considering he was in a fiery car explosion about 15 hours ago...

· Was at the Paley Festival screening for Battlestar Galactica at the DGA last Friday and saw Kevin Smith and a woman (his wife?) passing notes during the panel Q&A.

· - fri at fred segal - thought we'd at least have an olsen-level sighting. instead we had jonathan ahdout. who's that you asked? we know him only as behrooz, on last season's 24. the kid who's dad tried to kill him for spoiling his terrorist plot and who's mom was in House of Sand and Fog. I thought he looked like a young ralph macchio, until he smiled. he's got braces now.
-sat night janel moloney from the west wing at AOC. she and her husband? boyfriend? were very kissy-kissy as they waited for the valet to bring their car but they may have just been huddling for warmth in
the arctic cold.
-sun night at dominick's saw danny masterson, proving you can't swing a cat in this town without hitting a cast member of that 70s show. and even danny masterson can't turn down $10 house wine on sunday nights.
-also sun night - christpher lloyd, dr. emmett brown, at chateau marmont. after leaving the dining room he stopped to peruse the magazine rack. his hand seemed really twitchy - I hope he's not afflicted with the same illness as his back to the future co-star.

· This past Saturday, the 4th of March i found myself standing next to Tim Allen at a Blockbuster in Sherman Oaks. At first i didn't look up, he was just another person that was looking for movies, but as soon as he opened his mouth to talk, i knew it was him. I looked up and, indeed, i was face to face with Tim Allen. Unfortunately i'm not very good at hiding my sometimes embarrassing reactions, so i didn't have much time to look at him before he noticed my jaw drop to the floor and he just scurried away. He actually looks a little older in person if you ask me, and he was wearing glasses. He was with a blonde woman, not one of those bimbo-ish looking ones, she was actually pretty cute...maybe in her mid-to-late forties. There were quite a few people who noticed him also. I was a couple of people behind him in line, and i happened to get the same blockbuster employee he did. So that guy was talking to another employee about him and they were laughing at him because h is blockbuster card said "Tim Dick" instead of Tim Allen. All in all, he seemed like a pretty normal guy...not out for attention, he just simply wanted to get a movie and leave...which is why i didn't want to ask for an autograph, i didn't want to bother him on what seemed to be a laid-back day for him.

Thursday, 2/23: Please don't ask why but I happened to be in Hepburn's (a gown boutique/store, wtf, I don't, I was with a girl, awright?), in a mall in the valley (don't know the name, off of Riverside Drive?). Anyhow, while waiting for my girl to try on a dress, I immediately have a deja-vu feeling while observing this guy doing the same thing. Deja-vu because the night before I had just caught the first part of PBS tribute to MONTY PYTHON all about this guy...it was ERIC IDLE. Couldn't believe it, as I'm a Python fan from way back (I had hip parents). There was that wkward bit of recognition and then his beautiful teenage daughter (I mean that in a non-pervy way) came out with her dress (it was beautiful, too). He bought it & left (it was for her formal, apparently). Not only a genius but a doting father, too. How freaking awesome is that?

· 3-8: I was just shopping at the West Hollywood Wholefoods, rather irritated because I called to see if they had coconut extract and someone told me they did but when I arrived they didn't have it so I spent an hour shopping in vegan heaven on an empty stomach. Too much cash dropped. When I get to the check out I look around as I usually do and directly across from me I see IAN SOMERHALDER. He was wearing a white t-shirt and looked pensive. I went to see the crap play DOG SEES GOD in NYC a month ago just so I could lust Ian but I found out he wasn't on that night. So I was a bit pissed. I felt better seeing him in LA. My ex-boyfriend (who's trying to win me back but just making things worse) is so much hotter in that dirty, scruffy, stinky pube white boy way. I mean Ian can't even grow in a full beard and he rocks the scruff like he thinks it's the bomb. To lose even more cool points when he got to the door he stopped and made a big deal of looking at a coupon book or something then he looked to see if anyone noticed. I made sure I was staring off into space so as not to boost his ego. And the final insult was his tight 7 style jeans or whatever they were. Ian doesn't have an ass, just bone so it was not a good look. So much
for meeting one of your gay fantasies.

at my Peet s in Studio City, Adrienne Barbeau (2/27 or 2/28), was so well put together; she looked super and she was reading a treatment or script as she sidled up to a stool at the bar. Recognition came later to me, while I was phoning at next stool over. I wanted to talk Maude with her, but thought better of it. Jere Burns and John Laroquette like Peet s too, at least they used to. Yes, I know these are old names, but it s Studio City, folks.

· two big sightings at palomino in westwood today 3/8: Jigsaw himself from saw: tobin bell, enjoying lunch with another man, and across the restaurant american idol clay aiken eating with 3 women dressed in black. he was wearing a striped sweater and when he left he put on a floppy woody allen type hat. it seemed like no one in the restaurant noticed him.

If Jonathan Antin is important enough of a hairstylist to warrant a 3rd season of BLOW OUT, then how come he was walking down Robertson during the height of Oscar preparation time (2:30ish on Sunday)? He was strolling with the wife and kid, and got into his car which was parked on 3rd...obviously too cheap to park in the dollar lot next to Kitson. Either way, he plays himself off like the biggest of the bigshots, and yet, he's clearly not doing jack shit during what should have been his biggest day of the year.

· OK, granted, this is a niche sighting, but I was up at Baja Fresh on Sunset in Hollywood when in walks Dave Mustaine with 3 other metalheads. They could be the other members of Megadeth but who knows...the last time I listened to Megadeth was in high school and I don't admit to it freely. So, Dave and the metalheads must have had the mad munchies because each one of them ordered food for 3, they devoured it like human steamshovels and get this... they were TOO METAL TO CLEAN UP THEIR TABLE. Damn. If I would have had a camera, I would have made a video of it that could have circled around the internet like that woman that didn't clean up her dog's crap on the subway in Korea or like that video where Glenn Danzig get's knocked the F out by some other metalhead. Next time, Dave... next time.
