Ricky Gervais: Ready For Hollywood

On the eve of NBC's launch of the American version of The Office (and in its second story about the new show in two days—someone give their PR person a raise), the NYT visits with Ricky Gervais, the comedic genius behind the original British series. Now that he's embraced his post-Office existence, it seems that he's trolling for a job in NBC's programming department:
For fun, he watches sitcoms and funny movies. "I am not a big reader," he said, an understatement. He has read only one novel in his life, "The Catcher in the Rye." He was 28 at the time. "It was great," he said, "but there's only so much time in the day."
Oh, we kid! We meant to pick on Fox, but then we realized that Who's Your Daddy? was merely a postmodern interpretation of Oliver Twist. They've got some people with book-learnin' over there on Pico.
