Al Qaeda Wanted To Kidnap Russell Crowe

In this month's issue of GQ, Russell Crowe says that the FBI informed him of a plot to "culturally destabilize" America by kidnapping him in early 2001:
"I never fully understood what the f... was going on. Suddenly, it looks like I think I'm f...ing Elvis Presley, because everywhere I go there are all these FBI guys around." [...]
An FBI spokesman said at the time: "We received word of a possible kidnap attempt . . . we regard this as a serious matter."
After a shy terrorist cell member at the back of the cave gingerly raised his hand and suggested that kidnapping an Australian actor with a crappy band might not have quite the destabilizing effect Al Qaeda was seeking, they went with, you know, that other thing with the planes.
