On Sunday, public editor Dan Okrent's column called for a change in the format of the New York Times' "Corrections" column. Today, the paper announced they were going to do exactly that. Starting tomorrow. So, just to recap: Dan Okrent says the "Corrections" need to change and, in under a week, it does.

Um, does this seem odd to anyone else? A major format change on A2 happens justlikethat? Something's off. Maybe Dan Okrent didn't know about the forthcoming change? That's a nice, innocent explanation and really, it's not unusual for there to be a lack of communication across departments. Or did the editors put Okrent up to paving the way for today's announcement? It's not altogether unlikely: not only does Okrent's Sunday column put the issue of "Corrections" back into the readership's consciousness, but it also makes Danny look as if he carries some sort of weight around the office. But then you have to wonder: is the Times pushing a self-promoting agenda through its public editor? It's so...evil.
