I go out for lunch for the first time ever and suddenly the NYT decides to FINALLY announce the new editor for the Book Review. That'll teach me to eat.

Anyway. According to the Times memo distributed by Bill Keller this afternoon, their new hire, Vanity Fair's Sam Tanenhaus, is "a passionate consumer of books, a kind of literary and intellectual fire-hose." Gee, that's an endearingly phallic image, isn't it? Then there's something about outgoing editor Chip McGrath (or "McCrath," as Keller calls him (I like McWrath better — or maybe Mayor McCheese?)) "bequeathing his staff." Glad they didn't hire anyone with one of those... what are those things called? Oh yeah: vaginas.
