You know, I've just been on the edge of my seat for nearly a week now about the naming of the new Times Book Review editor. No, really. I'm all aflutter.

Okay. Lies. I don't care any more than you do. There is no lemon-scented Pledge strong enough to remove the decades of dust from the Book Review.

Publisher's Weekly is all stoked though. They have a short list of candidates, of course, which includes both the pro- and anti-snark contingents, not to mention Donald Rumsfeld. Their last entry is the best, about the Editorial Board of The New York Review of Books taking over: "Actually, they never take the job. At the interview, they are shocked when they open the section and find they haven't been working at the least funny publication in this country after all, provoking a long and therapy-inducing existential crisis that ends only when they are hired at Shouts & Murmurs."
