Sunday Book Review: A Non-Blast From the Past
You know I'd rather eat bread in public than give props to the Boston Globe. But this Alex Beam column about the NYT Sunday Book Review is pretty hot. "The last time I reveled in an outstanding piece of work in the Sunday Book Review was October 1994," writes Beam.
The Book Review is the chunk of the Sunday Times living in, hmm, maybe the 1940s. (Decidedly out of synch: the news department is often stuck in the 60s, the style section and magazine sometimes unable to decide between the 70s and 80s. Don't get me wrong: I love me some 80s!)
Every time I so much as look at the Book Review I can feel my mouth filling with dust. So I'm thrilled that an announcement may be made tomorrow — a short list of potential new editors? A decision to discontinue it? (Dream on.)
