The Post reports that Jayson Blair may have finally whored his hopefully un-fabricated life story to a willing publisher. "Mainstream New York publishers showed little interest in the former Timesman after his May resignation, but Los Angeles-based New Millennium Press has agreed to publish the book, to be called 'Burning Down My Master's House: My Life and the New York Times.'"

Does New Millennium actually think this book will sell outside of a tiny segment of Manhattan? Stop anyone on L.A.'s Melrose Avenue or Chicago's State Street and ask them who Jayson Blair is. More than half of them will mention the Friday the 13th movies, guaranteed.

Ah, synchronicity. Also today, the Times announced a new position for its assistant managing editor Allan M. Siegal: editor of standards. The job sounds like a police department's internal affairs officer, and Mr. Siegal sounds like the stuffy sort of do-gooder who would totally narc you out for making stuff up at work. Killjoy.
